A lot has changed from my freshman year of high school to now, my first trimester of my senior year. My career choices have changed, as well as my appearance and group of friends. I am now in my second year of early college, and have changed my career choice a few times. When I was a freshman I was convinced I wanted to be a marine biologist, until my first year of early college (11th grade) when I developed an interest in business. High school has been interesting, but I am very excited to see where my future takes me.
Note to myself 1 year from now: I hope all the hard work paid off, and I hope I am content with my college choice, and experience so far. I'm sure I've made some great friends and had some great times so far. Keep up the good work. 5 years from now: I should be close to finishing up my major. I assume I've built some fantastic relationships and I hope I've formed into a responsible and successful adult that both my parents and I can be proud of.

When I first heard about the attack in Paris, I was devastated. Innocent people being killed is never an easy thing to disregard, I'm sure many were outraged by this news, but anger was not my first feeling, mine was sympathy for both the victims and their families. When asked how to handle a situation like this, an answer is hard to come up with. Some may say to attack back, but I truly don't see what that is solving, it is just putting more innocent people in danger. Some little fears I have are of sharks, and bears which I may, hopefully never come in contract with. But there are some fears that I am not too sure how to handle, I'm very scared of my future. Being in control of whatever I want to do in life is a scary thing as well as the risk for failure. I'm thankful for the support I have and every time I think of my future i try to stay optimistic.
With thanksgiving coming up many people are thinking about all the things they are thankful for. Although there are plenty of things I am thankful for I'd have to say this year my mom and dad, close friends, and teachers/professors are the ones id like to thank the most. With all the stress of senior year and planning for college my friends and family have been so supportive and I don't know what I would do without them. It may be strange for a student to say they are thankful for teachers but with everything I have going on I consider myself lucky to have such helpful and understanding staff by my side.
I found the article "Apologizing by Text Is Different From Saying Sorry in Person" very interesting. It's a given that this generation is way too connected to their phones, but I don't think people understand the effects of it. If you were upset over something would you really want a text from someone saying "im sorry"? I know when I am a hundred percent sorry about something I've done, texting the apology is the last thing id do. Even a simple phone call so they could hear me say it is considered better in my book, but id still prefer to say an apology, as well as receive one, in person. The article talks about how technology is interfering with empathy skills and how to deal with empathy and I could not agree more.
From the article 9 behaviors that make you a star employee I chose two behaviors that I'm sure I could work on. They are working collaboratively and embracing change. Most of the time I enjoy working by myself but teamwork is essential to success and I need to work on opening up and working along with others as well as getting used to change, I usually go with what I know, but change can be a good thing.
Two points that caught my attention from the article "How to carve out life's passion" by John C. Maxwell, would be: Pay the price and define success for yourself. On the road to success there are certain things you may have to overcome or some hardships along the way but that's all part of paying the price. If you are passionate about what you are pursuing then the "price" should be worth it. Also you must define success for yourself in order to be successful, this ties into another section of the article that talks about ways to fire up your passion. Some questions asked are "What hobbies have you pursued over the years and why? These may be clues that will tell you something about yourself." and "What would you never give up because you love it so much?" these answers may be the key to defining your own success.

This quote ties along with another one of my favorites that is "quitters never win". It is true that quitting is a bad solution to getting what you want in life. How can you achieve something if you don't keep working for it? No matter how hard it gets. There has been plenty of times where I have just wanted to give up at something, but most of the time I am relieved that I decided not to, for instance, I started a job over the summer and was working about 5 days a week. When both college and high school started for me I felt overwhelmed and highly debated on quitting my job. After contemplating it I went to talk to my manager and she said she understands and said she could schedule me less and give me time for both work and studies. I was satisfied that I could keep both my job and schooling because I do enjoy my job and would have been upset if I would have just quit. From the article "The Ultimate Michigan Bucket List For 2015" I've seen plenty of thing id want to do and a few that I have already done, such as; going ice skating in campus Martius which I do a few times each year, As well as visiting the international auto show every year with my dad. I have also had the pleasure of taking a carriage ride on Mackinac island with my best friend Kaeley. These are things I have greatly enjoyed doing and hope to do again.
The three points i chose were encourage creativity, be yourself, and be humble. All of these are important aspects for anything you do in life. Being humble allows you to admit to your own errors and share success with your team, as a leader. Being yourself is also important, if not one of the most important points. It is good to have your own opinions and ways of running things, be original. Last but not least as a leader it is great to encourage creativity, opening up to others ideas is essential in most leadership roles, Leadership is closely intertwined with followership and they both need eachother to create success.
You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.
-Jim Rohn It is essential to be positive and make the best of any situation, especially when you have no control over whats happening, you cannot change the situation but you may change yourself and the way you look at things, and i believe that is a very important aspect to realize. |
