Summary Author? Title? Topic? The author of this article is Penelope Trunk. The title is Don’t worry Be Happy On The Job. Penelope wrote about how the job she’s working right now isn’t the dream job she had in mind, but she ended up loving where she worked and who she worked with. She talks about five attributes to make you do more enjoyable. They had to do with commute, temperature control, a manageable workflow, goals, and respect.
Editorial Personal opinion and connection. One of the attributes I disagree with is the temperature control. Of course it’s not comfortable to be too hot or to cold. But theirs other people around you that could like the thermostat pre-set and not touched. I think if you know it’s cold bring a sweater or if it’s warm where you work wear light, but still work appropriate clothing. You need to be considerate of others. Outside Connection Lady Gaga could take several lessons away from this article. Penelope talks about how a long commute to your job can make the rest of your day at work unpleasant. My moms drive to work is pretty far she always says how she loves her job but hates the traffic on the way there and back. I think my moms pretty much used to the drive now, but she says she wishes her work was closer to home so she could get more things done throughout the day instead of driving. But she loves her job so the drive isn't a total loss. Keywords (Define/Need two) Use dictionary from external links on Blackboard. The author of 5 Reasons Why Teenagers Should Have An After-School Job is Christie Silvers. This article is about 5 good reasons why teens should have an after school job. Responsibility is one of the key factors to have a job, you have to be responsible for yourself and be able to be there on time. Money management is also another factor; you have to know what amount you want to save and what you want to spend. Having a job can also give you a taste of what being an adult is going to be like. A job will also keep us teens out of trouble, its very time consuming and keeps you more focused on what you need to do rather than wondering around doing bad things. Also hard work is good for us, it teaches us that not everything is handed to us; we have to work for things in life. Editorial Personal opinion and connection. I personally think an after school job is a great idea. As long as I can keep my good grades up and balance a job I’m all for it! A little extra money never hurts. I baby sit here and there to earn some extra cash but when I’m a little bit older I’d like to work at my favorite clothing store forever 21. I shop there all the time and think it would be a perfect job for me. I would also get more discounts and earn some money so I can’t wait to work! Outside Connection Lady Gaga could take several lessons away from this article. My brother plans on getting a job so he can save up for a car. He’s having trouble balancing football and his grades already so he hasn’t taken drivers training yet. The moment football is over he’s going to take drivers training and look for a job. He already has some money saved up for a car but he’s going to drive my dad’s car until he can buy his own. He’s being very responsible with his decisions and I’m very proud of him. The author of this article is Chris Widener. The title is 10 Things I Wish I Would Have Known Before I Went Into The Real World. This article is about 10 different things you learn when you grow up. You learn that life isn’t fair, people play favorites, people let you down, not everybody wants to grow personality, the stock market goes down sometimes, the older you get the harder it is to lose weight, marriage is work, it takes longer to get out of debt than it does to get in it, it doesn’t work to try to please others, and you need to tend to your spiritual, emotional and physical health or you will crash hard. I think I will end up learning some of these the hard way. Editorial Personal opinion and connection. I haven’t experienced most of these because I’m not an adult yet. But the one I have a connection to the most is “it doesn’t work to try to please others.” No matter how hard you try or how nice of a person you are, not everyone will like you. Some people are judgmental and have certain reasons not to like you then there are people who don’t like you just because they don’t feel like it. But I think its fine to be not liked by some people because you have good friends who care about you so you don’t need those mean people who don’t. You just can’t please everybody but that’s okay. Outside Connection Lady Gaga could take several lessons away from this article. I don’t know much about the stock market. But I know my dad does. He’s always talking about the stock market and stuff to deal with that. My dad’s always watching shows on the stock market and he trades stocks on his laptop. He tries telling me about them but I never have any clue what on earth he is talking about. Sometimes I sit down with him and watch the shows he watches. But it’s really hard to watch something you don’t understand, he will end up teaching me about them. Keywords (Define/Need two) Use dictionary from external links on Blackboard. Drudgery: Menial, distasteful, dull, or hard work. Rational: Agreeable to reason; reasonable; sensible. Summary Author? Title? Topic? The title of this selection is What To Wear To The Interview. It talks about the general “dos” and “don’ts” on what to wear to a job interview. It explains how things as simple as not dressing right can ruin a job for you. You should always be nicely dressed and have good hygiene for an interview.
Editorial Personal opinion and connection. My opinion is a dressing nice is important for an interview because something like dressing inappropriate can be the tie breaker between two potential employees. If I was an employer and someone looked like they came to the job in what they slept in, they defiantly wouldn’t make a good first impression on me. Someone who took their time to get ready and look nice would have a much better chance at getting the job because it shows they care and want to make a good impression. It is a little ridiculous at how drastic some things are, for example having your nails painted could cost you the whole job. But it’s the employers decision not yours. It should be common sense to dress appropriate and not look like a bum. Outside Connection Lady Gaga could take several lessons away from this article. I see some girls walking around school with green hair. Of course it’s your hair do what you want with it but I don’t think that will be very impressive in a job interview. She also wears leather chained pants a lot and no offense but come off as a little scary. If she was going to work for hot topic I’m sure the way she looks would be acceptable. But just about any other job I think they’d frown on green hair and chains. Hopefully she dyes her hair and has some nicer clothes for her future job interview. Attire n : clothing of a distinctive style or for a particular occasion clerical adj 1: of or relating to clerks; "clerical work" 2: of or relating to the clergy; "clerical collar" 3: appropriate for or engaged in office work; "clerical skills"; "a clerical job"; "the clerical staff" Summary Author? Title? Topic? The author of this article is Vicki Salemi. The title is Friendly Facebook Reminder For Your Job: Be Careful What You Post. It’s about people needing to be more careful about things they post on Facebook especially job related. Things like pictures or comments can cost you your job. Even if you’re going for a job if a employer sees things he doesn’t want to see on your Facebook you might not get the job. It’s better to keep your Facebook nice and clean.
Editorial Personal opinion and connection. I think you should keep your profile private. Other than your friends and people you know no one else needs to see your profile. Avoid all inappropriate post on your wall and other people’s profiles. Also don’t upload pictures of you or others that shouldn’t be on Facebook. You wouldn’t want a stupid Facebook post to ruin your chance of getting a job. Outside Connection Lady Gaga could take several lessons away from this article. There’s this one girl I know at lakeshore who I’m not going to say her name but with the way she handles her Facebook will not get employed if her account isn’t cleaned up. She has videos of her fighting people and picture that are a little bit to revealing and post with cuss words and all that. There’s nothing impressive about any of that and I don’t know why she all that on her public profile. I hope she takes some of the stuff down before it’s too late. If she doesn’t employers aren’t going to hire her. Keywords (Define/Need two) Use dictionary from external links on Blackboard. Violate- v 1: fail to agree with; be in violation of; as of rules or patterns; "He violated the agreement to stay away from his ex-wife"; "You are breaking the law!" But to wear them to school doesn't seem to appropriate. It kind of shows your not here to learn your here to sleep. You should most likely leave the Pj's at home.
